For my final project, I decided to work on a VR experience, instead of the game I proposed in my previous blog post.
This experience is inspired by Surrealism-specifically the work of René Magritte (see samples of his artworks below). Magritte’s iconic works feature clouds, eyes, green apples, bowler hats. So, I decided to translate these elements into a VR experience (watch video below) with the following:
- Eyes: Geometric shapes are embedded with eye scans from University of Utah’s, Moran Clinical Ophthalmology Resources for Education (CORE) collection (see sample video below).
- Clouds: The background is a cloudy skybox. I flipped the camera upwards, so that more of the sky is in view.
- Apples: I also used the cloud texture to paint a pedestal on which I placed a green apple.
I animated the geometric shapes, making them expand/contract/move around the screen for about 5 seconds. During this time, a smokey element emerges from the far right corner of the screen, towards the viewer. After 5 seconds, two objects start moving towards the viewers direction.
For the background music, I created a playlist with a mix of classical music, Carribean, hip hop + reggae.
I am excited by this project, and I will continue working on it over the holidays, as I wish to include more elements in the scene.
